Ryanair Pilot Passes Out While Landing Plane after Violent Thunderstorm

Ryanair’s flight FR3918 bound for Palermo, Italy from London was forced to divert to Trapani —67miles away— after thunderstorms rocked the area, Tuesday. As the plane was landing, the copilot passed out.

The captain was forced to land the plane alone and immediately after landing, the copilot was rushed to hospital. He was later discharged after a brief assessment by doctors.

Ryanair said, “The first officer on this flight briefly fainted while the aircraft was being landed by the captain at Trapani.

“He was examined by local medical staff and taken to hospital, where he was examined and released shortly thereafter without suffering any ill effects whatsoever.”

The carrier said that the reason for the diversion was thunderstorms over Palermo and not any issue with their crew.

In other news, Stansted Airport shared images of its new arrival terminal. The artist’s impression shows a spacious immigration and baggage reclaim areas, an aerial view of the terminal entrance and a plaza style forecourt.

Architects Pascall + Watson, who are designing the 130million terminal, released updated concepts for the public to catch a glimpse of the stunning building.

Paul Willis, London Stansted's Transformation Director, said: “The Arrivals Terminal is the centrepiece project of our £600 million transformation programme and these latest images really whet the appetite of what the new and improved London Stansted Airport will look like when the facility opens in 2020.

“Our five-year multi-million-pound project will transform the experience for millions of passengers and help unlock the airport’s spare runway capacity, providing passengers with a wider choice of airlines and destinations.”

London Stansted is London’s third busiest airport and has recently, applied to increase its capacity to 43million passengers per year from 35million passengers.
