Nottingham Transport Ranked ‘Best in the UK’

Nottingham’s transport services have been ranked number one for the third time in the National Highways &Transport (NHT) Network Services Survey. Beating 106 local authority areas, Nottingham received the highest overall public satisfaction score nationally, just as in 2010 and 2014.

The survey examined accessibility, walking and cycling paths, tackling congestion, public transport, road safety and highway maintenance.

Nottingham bagged the top ratings in local bus services, public transport information and traffic management. Moreover, according to the latest Department for Transport statistics, Nottingham still has the UK’s second highest bus per head of population.  Brighton &Hove is in the lead while Reading has the third highest.

Some local transport users agree that the city deserves the award, expressing their satisfaction with the comfort and convenience of Nottingham’s transport network.

19 year-old Georgina Raven who catches the tram from Bulwell to the city daily said: "I like how the trams are really frequent. They all go in the same back and forth direction so it's really easy to get yourself around.

"I think it's good that we've won this title, though I don't have a lot to compare it to."

Nottingham City Council's portfolio holder for business, growth and transport, Councillor Nick McDonald, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Nottingham people have again responded so positively to the highway and transport services that we provide in the city.

"It shows that the investment we are continually making to improve our infrastructure, create greener transport options and to promote integrated transport services is benefiting local people."

As one would expect, not everybody agrees with the survey results if the online comments are anything to go by. One user said: “Is this a joke? Nottingham is the worst city to drive around and is getting worse all the time,” while another remarked, “They obviously haven't tried to drive around Nottingham.”

Well, what do you think of Nottingham’s transport services?
