Low Cost Airline Battles

Wizz Air believes they will catch up with their direct competitor Ryanair over the next year or so. With increased operating costs, such as their investment in customer service and flights to more premium airports, Ryanair is narrowing the gap, which will allow Wizz Air to surpass the Irish company within the next year.

Wizz Air is currently expanding their air fleet and will be increasing flights and routes but they will remain steeply discounted. They aren’t as well known as Ryanair and EasyJet, but a quick look at each website demonstrates that Ryanair still dominates with the range of departures they offer as well as low prices. EasyJet still has fairly high prices when compared to Ryanair.
For example, Ryanair has flights that start at 9.99 and EasyJet’s lowest fares start at 12.99 and these are for many of the same destinations.

Of course, EasyJet often has better airport placement, but it really depends on whether or not this is a concern for you. If it isn’t, then RyanAir is the better choice. Wizz Air has a stronger presence in Central and Eastern Europe and despite the fact Ryanair is opening up a new location in Timisoara airport, Romania, CEO Jozsef Varad was very relaxed about it.

He stated that Ryanair has been in that part of Europe for seven years, and he feels there is plenty of room in the market for both airlines. As he mentioned before, as Ryanair’s costs go up, Wizz Air will continue to reduce their own costs and he feels his airline is set to surpass Ryanair in the next year.

We will keep our eye on these two to see if his prediction holds true!
