Glasgow Airport Ranked Among Europe’s Fastest Growing Airports

Glasgow airport has been ranked as one of the fastest growing airports in Europe last year. Carrying between 5 and 10 million passengers per year, it is ranked fifth in its Group three category.

Glasgow reported a 12.5% increase in passengers last year, adding more than a million passengers to their 8.7 million total, having added 30 routes last year. The airport was behind Milan with 18.8%, Gothenburg with 18.1% and Berlin with 16.9% and Porto with 16.7%.

The Managing Director of Glasgow Airport, Amanda McMillan has said they worked very hard through 2015 to strengthen their route network and it has been reflected in their passenger growth. She also is happy to say that to place as one of Europe’s fastest growing airports is a fantastic achievement as it demonstrates that their efforts are paying off.

Airports like Glasgow and other European airports are well on their way toward toppling Heathrow as the top airport. With its continued delays over the third runway, and all of the controversy surrounding that, it might lose its place as the number one airport in Europe. This especially with bigger and more modern airports like those in Dubai, and Istanbul, that can fly more passengers, and to more destinations, in particular those in the middle and far east.

Hopefully Heathrow will see that to delay is not good for its’ future, as well as being toppled by foreign competition, Heathrow may see its passengers lost to other UK airports. Kudos to Glasgow airport and their continued growth, and we expect to see another year of growth from them if things continue as they are.
