Primera Air Collapses Leaving Thousands of Passengers Stranded

Budget airline Primera Air has collapsed leaving thousands of passengers stranded in different airports including those that booked flights from Stansted Airport.

The carrier had launched cheap long-haul flights between UK and US early this year but on Monday announced it is ceasing all flights from midnight.

The Icelandic airline, which has been in operation for 14 years, said the late arrival of a new aircraft from Boeing that led to cancellations and failure to secure long-term financing were the main causes for the collapse.

Passengers heading to Washington and New York on two separate flights from Stansted were left stranded after their flights were cancelled yesterday evening.

Primera said on its website: “Airline Primera Air and IATA codes PF and 6F have been suspended as of today, October 2nd, 2018.

“On behalf of Primera Air team, we would like to thank you for your loyalty. On this sad day we are saying Goodbye to all of you.

“Please visit for further updates in next few days. Tour Operator passengers are kindly suggested to address their Tour Operators and Agents for further information and actions.

“Kindly understand that the usual options for contacts (via email or phone) cannot be offered any longer.”

A London Stansted Airport statement said: “We have learned this afternoon that Primera Air has ceased all flight operations and will go into administration at midnight tonight.

“Passengers due to travel with Primera Air are advised not to travel to the airport and instead contact the airline direct for the latest information regarding their flight.

“We understand this is a difficult time for customers whose travel plans have been disrupted and we are providing information and assistance to those who have already travelled to the airport for flights that had been due to depart today.”
