Passenger With Deadly Virus At Heathrow

A passenger from Riyadh passing through London Heathrow airport has been diagnosed with a deadly virus. This comes after the first incident of a passenger diagnosed with the deadly virus was reported a week ago. The virus is termed to be like the deadly SARS virus.

The First passenger was flying from Saudi Arabia to Heathrow airport, where he was to then connect to a flight leaving for the United States. Screening confirmed positive for MERS –COV. The second passenger was travelling from Riyadh to Chicago in the United States, passing through London Heathrow airport. After health official established presence of this virus, other passengers in the plane had to be screened. Luckily, no one was found with the virus.

Symptoms characterized by the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS –COV) include shortness of breath and unusual respiratory difficulties. Public health England officials encourage those with the virus to avoid going close to camels as reports indicate that camels have the potentials of transmitting the virus to humans. Though transmission is considerably low, all citizens are urged to exercise precautionary measures. The airline with the infected individual is looking to contact people who were in the same flight to test them for the virus.

This is a new kind of virus that was first discovered in a person from the Middle East. Cases of infection have been reported severally from the Middle East but have seemed to be on the rise recently. The last time such an incident was reported from the UK was in 2013. Reports from world heath organization indicate that infections from the virus are on an alarming increase with a total of 111 people infected in the month of March alone. Other countries with this virus include Tunisia, Malaysia, Germany, France among others. There have been several deaths as a result of the virus reported.
